Firestarters Youth Mission Trip - June, 2022
Our 2022 youth group mission trip went to Spindale, North Carolina where we spent a week with YouthWorks. Seven youth and three adults served Jesus in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The community once thrived on textile mills and other manufacturing industries, but with off-shoring of jobs, their economy has struggled for the past two decades.
Sunday morning we worshiped at Spindale United Methodist Church. We met, ate, and slept there for the week. Forty-eight persons from youth groups from Iowa, Minnesota, and Texas joined together for service, worship, fellowship, and recreation.
We participated in about a dozen service projects which included deck building, Salvation Army volunteers, building a trail in the forest, porch painting, garden harvesting, senior center volunteers, Restore workers, and community center volunteers.
Due to pandemic restrictions, this was our first mission trip since 2019. The students and adults loved the experience. They look forward to opportunities to serve Jesus in our own area and enthusiastically plan for the summer 2023 trip.
Well done good and faithful servants!
